Day 1: Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Upon arrival in Kigali, your adventure begins with a guided city tour. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about Rwanda’s history and resilience. Explore the local markets and craft villages to experience the vibrant culture of the city. After a delicious Rwandan lunch, take a scenic drive through Rwanda’s beautiful landscapes to Volcanoes National Park, where you’ll check into your lodge and relax in preparation for the days ahead.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking – A Once-in-a-Lifetime Encounter
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking procedures. Then, embark on your trek into the rainforest of Volcanoes National Park. Your expert guide and a team of trackers will lead you to one of the park’s habituated gorilla families. You’ll have up to one hour to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, experiencing their fascinating social behavior. Return to your lodge for a relaxing lunch and an afternoon at leisure.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking and Preparation for Karisimbi Hike
Start the day with a trek to track the golden monkeys, known for their playful nature and distinctive golden fur. Spend an hour observing these delightful primates before returning to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, prepare for your upcoming Karisimbi hike. Ensure that you have all necessary gear for the challenging hike to come.
Day 4: Karisimbi Hike – Day 1
After breakfast, begin the first leg of your trek to Mount Karisimbi. This hike will take you through lush forests and alpine meadows, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. At the end of the day, camp at the base camp or designated campsite on Karisimbi. Enjoy a hearty dinner and rest in preparation for the next day’s hike.
Day 5: Karisimbi Hike – Day 2 and Return to Kigali
Resume your ascent to the summit of Mount Karisimbi after breakfast. The final stretch offers panoramic views of the Virunga Mountains and beyond. Once at the summit, take in the breathtaking scenery before beginning your descent. After returning to base camp, transfer back to your lodge to freshen up and relax before driving back to Kigali. Depending on your schedule, you may have time to explore the city or do some last-minute shopping before being transferred to Kigali International Airport for your departure.
